Learn about the issues confronting the schools in Oakland and this year's pivotal school board race. All four incumbents who are up for election have announced that they will be stepping down, so this will be a key moment for the identity and direction of the embattled OUSD board.
In District 1, Jody London is stepping down after 10 years and Sam Davis is the only declared candidate so far. In recent elections, some candidates have taken advantage of PAC money to jump in to the race at the last minute, but Sam has committed to not accept any support from billionaires in his campaign.
Sam is a parent at Claremont Middle School, active in the PTA and School Site Council, a former teacher in the Oakland schools, and a longtime community activist. Meet Sam and learn more about the many challenges facing Oakland Unified and what he proposes to do about them.
Please note that Irene will ask guests to remove their shoes at the door.
