Statewide Election Changes - All Vote-By-Mail Election!

On May 8, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom issued Executive Order N-64-20, which, among other things, orders that a vote-by-mail ballot be mailed to each voter prior to the November 3, 2020, election—in addition to offering in-person voting locations.

  • Verify your status: In order to be sent a vote-by-mail ballot, you must be a registered voter.
You can verify your registration online with Alameda County by entering your information at this link.

  • Register to vote: If you are not already registered, you can register online at RegisterToVote.ca.gov.
You will be given the option to become a “permanent vote-by-mail voter,” which means you would automatically receive a ballot in the mail before each election.

  • Pre-registration for teens: Online pre-registration is now available for eligible 16 and 17 year olds. California youth who pre-register to vote will have their registration become active once they turn 18 years old. Teens can click here to pre-register to vote.

  • Find your district: Sam is running in Oakland's District 1. You can find out which Oakland voter district you live in by entering your address at this link.

  • Locate an official ballot drop-off box: Starting October 5th, drop your ballot off at a 24-hour drop box. Make your vote count—remember to sign the back of your return envelope! Open until 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 3rd. Find your nearest official ballot box on this map.
